H.E.A.R.T. Adult Literacy
Hernando's Education for Adult Readers in Training

 

01 -   ABE - Adult Basic Education

 Adult Basic Education involves non-credit courses designed to develop literacy skills necessary for successful employment and citizenship. Adult Basic Education prepares students to enroll in the GED preparation courses. Students in ABE classes work on skills in Reading, Math, and Language.

02 -  G.E.D. General Educational Development Classes

The purpose of this program is to prepare students for academic and personal success by obtaining the necessary skills required to pass the official GED Test and be awarded the State of Florida High School Diploma.

03 - ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)

The purpose of this course is to provide English language instruction for limited English proficient adults, which will increase their ability to communicate in English.

04 - Family Literacy

Family Literacy means services that are of sufficient duration to make sustainable changes in a family and that integrate all of the following activities:

1. Interactive literacy activities between parents and their children.

2. Training parents how to be the primary teachers for their children and full partners in the education of their children       

3. Parent Literacy training that leads to economic self-sufficiency; and

4. An age-appropriate education to prepare children for success in school and life experiences.

05 - Adults with Disabilities

The purpose of this program is to provide specialized adult general education for adult students with disabilities. These services are contracted out to ARC of the Nature Coast to provide instruction in literacy, work-related skills, employability skills, and life skills. Please contact:  352/544-2322

06 - Childcare at selected sites.

Childcare includes educational activities and we work with parents and their children. The goal is to make going back to school a family experience. As you prepare for success your children will also succeed.

07 - One-on-one or small group tutoring.

One-on-one or small group tutoring is a proven effective way to learn.

    Volunteer Tutors   --  There is a need for volunteers to help teach adults Reading, Math, English for Speakers of other Languages and  G.E.D. Studies.

 Classes will be held in the  H.E.A.R.T. Literacy Building, 801 N. Broad St. (Rt. 41N)
 Lunch will be served.
